Horizon Environmental Ltd was engaged by Berkeley Homes to undertake asbestos removal within 9 Millbank, a Grade II listed landmark being redeveloped into luxury apartments. The works required careful coordination to ensure asbestos was removed safely while preserving heritage finishes and operating in a multi-contractor environment.
Works included removal of thermal insulation residues, textured coatings, contaminated plaster and screeds, and dismantling ornate panelling for cleaning and reinstatement. Unforeseen asbestos discoveries were safely managed without programme delay.
Horizon implemented full site-specific RAMS, negative-pressure enclosures, triple-stage filtration, controlled waste routes, daily safety inspections, and heritage protection measures. The site received Berkeley Homes’ Monthly Health & Safety Award for July in recognition of outstanding performance.
Challenges included protecting listed finishes, managing concurrent trades, and dealing with unforeseen ACMs. These were mitigated through daily coordination, flexible work sequencing, and rapid client communication.
The project was delivered on time and within budget, with zero safety incidents. Horizon’s performance led to further tender invitations from Berkeley Homes.
